Disclaimer: The photos in the week's Session are horror based. They're not THAT scary but I figured I should warn you.
What it do party people?!
This week I have another unusual Sessions piece to share with you guys. I've been wanting to do some horror-themed photo shoots for a while now, and I'm excited to share my first one with you today.
To begin, I have a question for you. How much time do you waste... I mean, spend in front of the television? Have you ever noticed how much of that time is being used to sell you things? How many different methods are used to manipulate your wants and "needs" and even your opinions? Have you noticed how many quotes we use in our everyday life that come from tv shows, movies, and social media (memes)? I for one know that about 65% of what I say on any given day is a reference to SOMETHING. It's crazy to think about how much control of our lives we give the media industry. These are the thoughts that brought about my concept, Tell-Lie-Vision.
Tell-Lie-Vision is a double entendre that represents the negative characteristics the TV and Media Industry have on society with a horror twist. Since most things shown to you on TV are lies, a majority of our culture has become possessed by the media and in turn, have lost their individuality. This truth made me want to create a demon that represents this evil control.
Have you ever noticed that for most people to understand a thing place or idea (nouns shawty), they must first compare it to something else the media has told them is good or bad? For example, you might hear someone say "This new music artist sounds like a mix of Dr. Dre and Nas." Why can't there be an original sound that's great just on its own? Who is this mystery panel of influential people choosing what is and isn't valid? And why do we give a FUCK about what they have to say?! The internet age has given the media enough power to control how people think, what they buy, who they want to fuck, and ultimately, what you should look like to be accepted into the society they have created. Everyone is ready to jump on the next bandwagon to gain false praise and an illusion of success i.e. fake internet points.
We’ve become a meme culture where it's more important (or fulfilling) to gain 15 minutes of fame from a viral video instead of working toward sustainable success. Our instant gratification generation was crafted to be controlled, and it's working. We are able to exorcise ourselves from this evil and we must do so to think and decide for ourselves.
There's nothing ultimately wrong with gaining inspiration from outside sources. Doing so is human nature 101. Just don’t follow blindly along and let others decide for you when it comes to living your life. We must decide as a society and culture that it's time for things to change. We must realize that we hold all the power to what guides society. At the end of the day, we have to buy into what is successful. Life if so much more fulfilling when you accept yourself for who you are and stop trying to live up to other's standards. You're NEVER going to please everyone, so why even try? With that being said, I thank you for reading and I gladly present, "Tell-Lie-Vision". I hope it doesn't creep you out too much. (That's a lie)
